Making milestones for VISITFLANDERS Convention Bureau

Header

In short

How to put Flanders on the map as region of impact for scientists and international conferences? By tapping into the ambitions of researchers, scientists, policymakers and entrepreneurs. For VISITFLANDERS Convention Bureau, we launched an awareness campaign on LinkedIn showcasing five significant Flemish milestones. The key question: what’s your milestone?

The brief

VISITFLANDERS Convention Bureau came to us for an awareness campaign to promote Flanders as an important conference destination – a region that helps you make an impact.

02

The story

Flanders and Belgium boast a rich history of pioneering inventions. The first clinically applicable contraceptive pill. The precursor of the internet. The electric doorbell. And the JPEG extension!

Today still, it’s all eyes on Flanders. Perhaps more than ever, Flanders is a region of impact for science and innovation. That’s why we decided to use recent groundbreaking projects to draw the attention of international scientists.

The result

Our “What’s your milestone?” campaign urges researchers and policymakers to think about the impact of their work. What difference do they make, and what legacy do they leave for future generations? By highlighting the following five remarkable scientific milestones, we demonstrate that Flanders is the region to be for making a mark:

  • Julius Persoone (yes, son of!) developed a praline that enables people with throat cancer to taste chocolate again.

  • Ignace Schops won the Goldman Environmental Prize (“the green Nobel Prize”) for establishing the first National Park in Flanders

  • Tara Grauwet makes healthy food accessible to all thanks to her research into the digestive system and its response to certain nutrients.

  • Jasper Van Hoorick produces bio-ink that allows 3D printers to print human cells and organs, among other things.

  • Jelle Demanet uses virtual reality to help patients recover, support the health sector and tackle staff shortages.

We had in-depth talks with these five pioneers, capturing their remarkable story in both words and pictures. We invited them to become ambassadors for our LinkedIn campaign, directing the target audience to a landing page with more inspiring stories from Flemish innovators.
